Before: Worn Finishes and Outdated Surfaces
The original kitchen featured black appliances, traditional upper and lower cabinets in a light natural wood tone, laminate countertops, and a square tile backsplash. A freestanding island housed the sink and dishwasher, flanked by two structural posts separated by a half wall that divided the kitchen from the living area. While the layout offered great potential, the kitchen felt dated and disconnected from the rest of the home.
The Remodeling Scope
Because the cabinets were solid and structurally sound, we chose to refinish rather than replace—a cost-effective decision that allowed more room in the budget for high-impact upgrades. The wall cabinets were updated in a soft creamy off-white, brightening the entire space, while the island cabinetry was painted a rich brown for contrast. We used a professional cabinet refinishing spray process using cabinet lacquer paint, not house paint. House painters should never touch cabinets.
We removed the half wall between the two structural posts, fully opening the view to the living area. The posts were then dressed in custom trim detailing, transforming them into beautiful architectural columns that add polish and presence to the design.
Fresh Finishes and Custom Details
Durability and visual cohesion came together with a cream-colored quartz countertop featuring a marble-inspired pattern. Along the main wall, this elegant surface was paired with a ceramic subway tile backsplash, while a framed backsplash with real marble inset was created behind the stove providing a luxurious focal point.
On the island, the countertop extends outward to create an overhang perfect for casual dining or morning coffee. We created a custom farmhouse-style sink apron—crafted from extra countertop material—joined precisely with a miter joint for a seamless, refined finish. To complete the look, a modern pull-out spray faucet and two glass pendant lights bring function and warmth to the heart of the home.

A Unified First Floor
Originally, the first floor featured a mix of carpet and hardwood floors that disrupted the home’s flow. By reusing the existing cabinetry and keeping the project efficient, we created enough savings to install new hardwood floors throughout the entire first level. The result is a cohesive, inviting space that ties everything together with continuous warmth and style.
