No, we’ve found that it’s actually nearly the same price in many cases to replace with new. New door replacements are about 65% cost of whole cabinets, for example.  Besides, you can’t change layout much or change any major features without buying new ones in a new design & layout. And frankly most box frames aren’t worth investing in. Also, to match the color of new doors to old box frames closely enough, you have to paint or apply laminate skins to all the old box frames. Some laminate skins are cheap and may delaminate. Generally, resurfacing is over-touted.  You may not be truly happy with the outcome, in our opinion. You don’t want to invest in a Kitchen remodel only to end up with a kitchen  doesn’t suit your needs. In general, people get what they pay for, as the saying goes. And there’s more to kitchen remodeling than just the cabinets! There’s the holistic design, counters, backsplash, flooring, appliances, plumbing and lighting fixtures.

The construction phase itself takes from 4-7 weeks for a typical project, and will be more for large projects. Hardwoods add 2 weeks; tile/LVP adds a ½ week. The design and planning phase before construction will take 2-8 weeks on the front end depending on supply chain lead times. We plan everything exactly and only start when ready so to minimize the time you’ll be without a kitchen at home (construction phase). Competitors that promise faster times take short cuts. There’s a fixed minimum amount of time a good kitchen remodeling project takes, city inspections included. And permitting the job using licensed trades and having the corresponding inspections is the NC law.

Examples of why a project takes time: 1) Every good stone fabricator needs 5-10 working days to make your custom countertop after templating the base cabinets. 2) Inspections must be done and sometimes the inspectors change their schedules. 3) Tile backsplash needs to be installed after countertops are installed, otherwise if the tile backsplash is installed before countertops, which some contractors take as a short cut, it’ll likely result in bottom row of tile not being parallel with counter top due to required shimming of counter top segments to meet up seams and it will not look good. It’s not a good practice and all professionals know it. Short cuts aren’t worth it. You have one chance to do the kitchen right every 20 years. Yes but it’s limited to the project area. We either move appliances or furniture to the garage and back, or to a POD in driveway that we rent. Or, we’ll shuffle it around the same floor of house for painting. We’ll include moving in proposal if you like. Or you can do it. Tell your Remodeling Advisor.

Yes, but we only allow customer to: 1) Move furniture out/into house for flooring, 2) Demolition, of which must be done correctly to our specification. We have our sub-contractors as partners and we work as a team. We’re really geared for complete remodeling projects, that’s why we limit DIY involvement. We can’t use your cousin who’s a plumber because they are not listed on our permit and we don’t have them set up in our insurance system. We have a tight partner team. Yes. We can save and/or re-install appliances, sinks, plumbing fixtures, light fixtures, flooring depending on cabinet layout and type hardwood, and certain cabinets. Counters and tile usually cannot be saved because they become damaged upon removal despite best efforts. If you want to donate your cabinets to someone, we’ll need to charge more to remove them differently and carefully put them in your space somewhere. Remember, existing cabinets are typically out of style or worn anyways. Hardwood floors may remain and maybe get refinished if you want.

Yes, we always pull a permit because it’s the law. Any project that changes electrical or plumbing or involves a structural element requires a permit in all municipalities. And any project over $40,000 requires a NC licensed General Contractor to pull the permit and run the project. Azalea has a NC GC license. We also use licensed trades and those things get inspected. We don’t want you to have any trouble selling the house or with the county tax assessor or voided insurance claims down the road. You should not do business with a contractor who doesn’t pull a permit for jobs that require them. For the most part, all kitchen jobs require permitting electrical and plumbing at a minimum.

Yes, we install new & refinish floors as an add-on to a Kitchen or Full Bath project. For example, we’ll replace your flooring in central living spaces adjacent to kitchen, in kitchen, down hall, half bath and laundry room. Any flooring: hardwoods, LVP/laminate planks, tile, etc.

Yes, we are a fully licensed NC General Contractor and our sister business is licensed also and builds additions and does structural work as well as whole house remodeling. Not all kitchen remodeling contractors are licensed. Beware. Many are interior designers or others who aren’t familiar with the intricacies of how homes are built and code requirements. They get the homeowner to pull the permit, which is not in the spirit of the NC licensing law. And some home insurance policies may become void for work done by unlicensed contractors. Don’t hire unlicensed contractors for kitchen or bath projects.

We don’t do carpet. We’ll demo old flooring as part of the project, install new hard flooring and do everything else. After the project you can shop and have carpet installed.

Yes and no. Please understand that 95% of all cabinets installed today in homes (including high end luxury homes) are RTA or “stock” cabinets made in a factory. RTA stands for “Ready To Assemble”. RTA cabinets have allowed the industry to lower cabinets costs and we’re all now enjoying that reality! We and our cabinet maker order them based on our kitchen design, assemble them, install them, and add trim. Each manufacturer offers about one to two dozen fixed color and door style combinations. To get RTA cabinet pricing, you pick one of their  fixed combinations. RTA cabinets are considered “standard”, not custom. That said, we do carry multiple cabinet lines and find nearly any style/color combination you want. And, we also offer “semi-custom” cabinets which allow you to select any of the manufacturers’ standard door styles with their standard colors. Obviously these cost more. We also offer customer cabinets. True custom cabinets are when they are made from scratch by our cabinet makers with any combination you want. They are typically a bit more expensive than semi-custom, but not always. We have some fantastic custom cabinet makers so we can offer you a great value on custom cabinets. Another note of interest, most RTA cabinets installed need a little bit of customization on site during installation to make them fit for your unique needs and your desired features. This is common.  Above all, we know how to make RTA, semi-custom and custom cabinets affordable. It is our job to walk with you through the kitchen design process in a way that educates you, gives you what you want and keeps the project affordable within your budget range.
